CL Desktop
|
|
CL Desktop is a desktop application built in Adobe AIR that takes its data from

a search easy, and it enables you to save your search parameters. You can pull up the current results in seconds without even opening your web browser.

StormPulse
|
|
StormPulse uses Adobe Flash to aggregate weather data from multiple sources.
For the latest hurricane information, this application combines storm data from the National Hurricane Center and imaging from NASA and NERC.
If you want to view a hurricane's projected path, projected wind speed, and historical tracks, you otherwise must cycle between multiple maps. StormPulse
presents overlays that enable you to view all the information simultaneously.
In addition, the information is presented in an
easy-to-use interface, using a mix of Flash and HTML.
This is a great example of a RIA that is enjoyable to use but also provides essential and
valuable information.

Brightkite Wall
|
|
Brightkite is a free social networking site that connects people based on
where you are. With Brightkite you "checkin", and then you can see where your friends are, what they’re up to, see what's going on around you, and
meet real-world friends.
Brightkite doesn't track you, you decide when you want to "check in", and at what accuracy. There are pretty comprehensive
privacy controls, so you can choose who gets to see your stuff by adjusting your privacy settings, but by default everybody can see everything.
The
Brightkite Wall enables you to view Brightkite content in a new way. Instead of going through the traditional web interface, Brightkite provides a view
of the content in a ticker-style Flex application.
The application also enables you to completely customize the data based on what you want to see.
You can limit the ticker to a specific search field, location, or user. In addition to displaying notes, the application also displays photos as they are
posted in addition to geographic check-ins as they happen.
You send messages in Brightkite wall with your cell phone, and thus you pay "standard text message rates".

aspiring composers, entirely in the browser.

notation software. Once your composition is complete, Noteflight makes it easy to embed your composition anywhere you like. This embedded preview
enables you to view the score as well as play back the music.
Noteflight is currently in beta, and you can sign up for an account today.

TwitterCamp
|
|
TwitterCamp is an Adobe AIR application created by Danny Dura, Adobe evangelist,
to extend the Twitter experience. Most people use Twitter to keep in touch with people across the globe from their computer, but TwitterCamp takes
advantage of Twitter in a public setting. Initially created for the Apollo Camp development event, TwitterCamp displays all tweets meeting specified criteria.
TwitterCamp also illustrates the full-screen functionality of Adobe AIR, which expands the reach of AIR applications to plasma displays or kiosks.
The application also takes advantage of configurable styling, so you can use the application for your event complete with custom branding.
An extra benefit of TwitterCamp is that it is open source. It can be a great tool for developers who are learning how to develop AIR applications.
Developers can also use the code to extend its functionality to new social networks.
The TwitterCamp application and its source code are available today.

DestroyFlicker
|
|
DestroyFlicker is one of the many Adobe AIR applications created for Flickr, but
this app delivers an easy-to-use interface that provides a new Flickr experience.
While you can easily go to Flickr.com to view all your photos,
the web interface can't compare to the speed and ease with which you can navigate through all your photos in this desktop application.
DestroyFlickr preserves most of the functionality of the traditional web interface. You can view your photos, search for photos across the entire site,
leave comments on photos, view EXIF metadata, and much more.
Another advantage is that it presents a clean and uncluttered user interface
that enables you to focus on your current task. Using the tabs at the bottom, you can easily navigate from your profile to your photos and even perform
an image search. You can also save workspaces that preserve all your view customizations, and return to them at any point.
DestroyFlickr is in beta and available to download today.

Kranich's Jewelers Mother's Ring Builder

The Mother's Ring Builder is a great example of a Flex application allowing
online retailers to set themselves apart and make their products to life for their customers.
Explore this application and you can see the depth of its design and the broad range of functionality it offers.
One note is that the application could use a progress indicator of some sort, as the app takes a bit to load, and that area of the screen is blank.
